Biography

Jennifer Day is proud to be a trainer with the Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative.  Also known as Jenn, she is a native Iowan who brings a passion for mental health for all people to her work. Her mental health career began arguably in childhood, but officially when she started studying psychology at the University of Northern Iowa.  After graduation, she continued learning about mental health through seminars & workshops, volunteer work, and other autodidactic pursuits. She melded her book learning with workplace experience through the Johnson County Crisis Center (now CommUnity) on the Crisis Line / National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, where she won Volunteer of the Year in 2012. She has continued her journey of personal and professional growth for over 10 years through roles as a Psychiatric Technician, BHIS Specialist, Program Coordinator of R Place Peer Recovery Center (of NAMI Johnson County), and MHDS (Mental Health Disability Services) ECR (East Central Region) Board Member. She knows first hand the effects of trauma, and the difference that Peer Support Specialists can make in recovering from mental illness(es).  Outside of work, Jenn loves to laugh, sing, spend time with animals, and meditate.
